The sander machine is a power tool used to make smooth surfaces by using sanding disc. Woodworking sander machines are usually electrically powered, and those used in auto-body repair work by use of compressed air. There are many different types of sanders are available in the market for different purposes. Also multi-purpose power tools and electric drills may have some sander attachments.
Disc sander : A disc sander machine is most commonly used as a stationary sander machine that consists of circular shaped sandpaper attached to a wheel turned by an electrically powered motor or compressed air. The wooden work piece is sat on a front bench that can be adjusted to various angles when it is required. It can be used for rough or fine sanding depending on the different types of sanding grit used.
Belt sander : In the market usually two types of belt sanders are available, one is fixed on the workbench and second is hand-held or stationary.
Flap sander or sanding flap wheel : A sanding attachment shaped like a disc and used on a hand-held drill or mounted on a bench grinder for finishing and polishing of curved surfaces.
Drum sander : Drum sander is a large sander machine that uses a rotating sanding drum. As with a planer machine, the operator is adjusts feed rollers to feed the wooden work piece into the drum sander machine. The sander machine is smooth its surfaces and sends it out the other side. Drum sander is good for finishing large surfaces of work piece.
Orbital sander : Orbital sander machine is hand-held sander machine that vibrates in small circles or “orbits.” Here the sanding disc is spinning while moving simultaneously in small ellipses causes the orbital action that it is known for. This type of sander is mostly used for fine sanding or where little material needs to be removed.
Oscillating spindle sander : The sander mounted on a spindle that both rotates and oscillates in and out or up and down along the axis of the rotation of spindle. This type of sander is good for sanding curves and contours that would be difficult with hand or orbital sanding.
Profile Shaper/Sander : An industrial sanding machine consisting of a powered transport with a series of workstations for performing shaping, sanding, or other finishing operations on one or more edges of components in cabinetry, furniture, shelving, and many other products. These types of machines create and finish decorative edges in an automated process using rotating ‘shaping heads’, ‘sanding wheels’, ‘foil applicators’ and other specialized equipment.
Here I make a sander for my own use that is used for the edges of the wooden work piece. I have used 13mm drill machine to make this type of sander machine.
