New DIY Tool Idea || Bearing Removal Tool

INTRODUCTION :

A bearing puller or bearing removal tool is a tool used to remove bearing from a rotating machine shaft or from a blind bearing hole. The most common use is removing a caged set of ball or bearings from a rotating machine shaft. These bearing removal tools are made of tool grade steel, so bearing removal tools are harder than the parts they are used on. Bearing removal tools are usually hand-powered with a handle provided on the turn screw. Some of the bearing pullers are hydraulically powered, using a hydraulically powered piston to press against the end of the machine shaft the bearing is out.

There are also small-sized versions of bearing pullers or bearing removal tools are available to remove small millimetre bearings in small fractional horsepower motors and fishing reels and other small machine components. There are two or three arms with extensions that allow the user to pull in the inner race as well. It is preferable to drive from the inner race since it is firmly set on the shaft of bearing to be pulled, while the outer race is not very well secured to the rest of the bearing parts assembly.

Here I make a bearing removal tool that is used to remove bearing from the shaft with the use of hammer. This tool is used when the gap between the bearing and shaft is very less and the normal bearing puller is not fulfill its purpose. Put the shaft with the bearing in the slot the bearing is pull out from the shaft.

Parts Used :

  • 2 Nos. metal pieces (15mm*15mm) 4” length
  • 2 Nos. 5/16 bolts with fly nuts (5” length)
  • 2 Nos. heavy L-section channel (2.5” length)
  • 4 Nos. ¼ allenky bolts (1” length)

How to make :

First of all cut the all required parts in its proper dimension. The dimensions are shown in the “parts used” section of this post.

First cut 2 Nos. 15mm*15mm metal pieces of 4” length. Then after, drill holes on both metal pieces. Drill a 5/16” hole on one side of the metal piece and 5mm hole on other side of metal piece, as shown in the image.

Next, taping a 5/16 thread on 5mm hole on one side of the both metal pieces using 5/16 BSW tape sets.

Also attach the both L-section channel with both metal pieces by using of 4 Nos. ¼ allenky bolts. Cut the extra parts of the L-section channel and sharpen the edges.

Fix the fly nuts on the head of the 5/16 bolts by using of glue, and pass the bolts through the holes and 5/16 thread in both metal pieces, as shown in the image.

Now, the tool is ready to use. This tool is used when the gap between the bearing and shaft is very less and the normal bearing puller is not fulfill its purpose.Bearing is easily removed by this tool with use of hammer.
