Introduction:-

A bearing puller is a tool used to remove bearing sets from a rotating machine shaft. The most common application is removing a caged set of ball or tapered bearings from a rotating shaft. These tools are made of tool grade steel, so they are harder than the parts they are used on. They are usually hand-powered with a handle on the turn screw. Some bearing pullers are hydraulically powered, using a hydraulically powered piston to press against the end of the shaft the bearing is on.

A bearing puller is a tool that is specially designed to pull bearings from shafts. There are many different types of bearing puller designs available, all intended to fulfill a particular purpose. Some designs use jaws to grip the bearing while others use bolts to attach directly to the bearing. One thing the styles have in common is that all types of bearing pullers or gear pullers use a threaded rod to press against the bearing's shaft and apply pressure until it comes loose. No matter which design is utilized, the proper puller makes the removal of a bearing an easier task.

Often used on small bearings in very tight quarters, the two-jaw puller is the puller of choice. Having two arms or jaws that grasp the bearing as the threaded rod comes in contact with the bearing’s mounting shaft, the rod is tightened, which applies pressure to the two arms or jaws as they pull the bearing from the shaft. Gradually tightening the bearing puller will result in the release and removal of the bearing.

Parts used:-

2 Nos. metal pieces 15mm*15mm (4” length) (jaws)

Metal piece 15mm*15mm (2.5” length) (head)

Metal piece 20mm*3.5mm (7.5” length) (jaw support)

3/8 Allenky bolt (4” length)

¼ Allenky bolt (2” length)

¼ Allenky bolt (1” length)

2 Nos. ¼  allenky bolts (0.75” length)

How to make:-

Cut all the metal pieces in its required dimension. All the dimensions are given in the “parts used” section. I have used 4” long metal pieces of 15mm*15mm as jaws (legs).

After cutting of all the required parts, make a slot on both the jaws and 2.5” metal piece (head of the bearing puller), as shown in the image.

Now, drill holes on metal pieces, make a thread of ¼ BSW in all holes by using of ¼ tape set, as shown in the image. Also drill a hole on centre of the 2.5” metal piece (head of the bearing puller), make 3/8 BSW thread for 3/8 allenky bolt.

Assemble all parts by using of allenky bolts, as shown in the image.

And at the last, bend the Metal piece of 20mm*3.5mm (7.5” length), and attach it with the bearing puller using of allenky bolt, as shown in the image.

Now, the bearing puller is ready to use.So using of allenky wrench, the 3/8 allenky bolt is press against the bearing's shaft and apply pressure until the bearing comes out.
