Drill Powered Bench Grinder

INTRODUCTION :

A bench grinder is a bench type of grinding machine and is used to drive abrasive wheels. A pedestal type grinder is a similar or larger version of grinder that is mounted on a pedestal, which may be bolted to the floor. These types of grinder machines are commonly used to hand grind various cutting tools and perform other rough grinding.

Depending on the grade and bond of the grinding wheel, it may be used for sharpening cutting tools such as tool bits, drill bits, chisels. Alternatively, it may be used to roughly shape metal prior to welding or fitting.

A wire brush wheel or buffing wheels can be interchanged with the grinding wheels of grinder machine in order to clean or polish workpieces. Stiff buffing wheels can also be used when deburring is the task at hand. Some buffing machines are built on the same concept as bench grinders except for longer housings and arbors with buffing wheels instead of grinding wheels.

Parts Used :

  • Drill machine
  • Hand grinder mechanism
  • Grinding wheel
  • Clamps
  • Wooden sheet base

How To Make :

Step 1 :- Attach drill machine on the base

First step of making a bench grinder using a drill machine is, attach the drill machine on the base. Drill machine is attached on the base by clamp and screws. I have used 3 clamps to attach drill machine on the wooden sheet base.

Step 2 :- Attach the hand grinding mechanism

Second step is attach the hand grinding mechanism on the wooden sheet base. I have used two bolts and nut to attach the hand grinding mechanism. After that, attach the shaft of hand grinding mechanism in the drill chuck of drill machine.

Step 3 :- Attach grinding wheel

This is the final step of making a bench grinder using a drill machine. I have used 6” grinding wheel. To reduce vibration, make sure that the grinding wheel is attached accurately.

Now the grinding machine is ready to use. Make sure that the rpm of the drill machine is very slow.
